Utah braces for aging boomers. Looking toward 2030: The governor directs agencies to prepare for the challenges of an older population

By 2030, aging baby boomers will have unprecedented health, social services, transportation and other needs that would be impossible for the state to provide today.

To ensure the elderly population is cared for in the future, Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. on Thursday unveiled the Utah 2030 project, in which state agencies will develop plans to meet the challenges of serving an older population.

"We’re looking at how the increase of the aging population will impact the state over the coming decades," said Maureen Henry, executive director for the Utah Commission on Aging, which is leading the project. "The departments need to be aware that the aging population are a big part of their constituency."
