Using Census Data With GIS Topic Of NRIS Seminar -2/27 -Helena

Kris Larson, GIS Programmer with the Census and Economic
Information Center (CEIC) in the Montana Department of Commerce, is
scheduled to be the guest speaker at the next Natural Resource
Information
System (NRIS) Seminar. Her presentation is set for Friday, February 27
from
3:00 pm – 4:00 pm in the conference room of the Montana State Library at 1515 East 6th Avenue in Helena.

The seminar, entitled "Using Census Data with GIS" will give a brief
overview of the unique aspects of Census geography and offer some tips
and
tricks for accessing Census data by specific geography using the Census
Bureau’s American FactFinder web site. Learn how to select blocks,
block
groups, or Census tracts and match the geography to data items such as
population, housing units, income, poverty, etc. A brief demonstration
of
formatting selected data for use in ArcMap will also be a part of this
presentation.

Natural resource and GIS professionals, as well as the public, are
invited
to attend. This seminar is free. For more information, call (406)

The Montana Natural Resource Information System (NRIS) was established
in
1985 by the Legislature. NRIS, a division of the State Library, acts
as a
clearinghouse for natural resource information.
