University of Utah tops nation for tech startups, innovations – $210 million in licensing income

Bear Paw Development Corporation is a private non-profit organization created for the purpose of administering programs to help improve regional economic conditions in Hill, Blaine, Liberty, Chouteau and Phillips Counties and the Fort Belknap and Rocky Boy's Indian Reservations.

When it comes to generating business startups and converting research into commercially viable enterprises, the University of Utah leads the nation, according to the Milken Institute’s 2017 rankings of the Best Universities for Technology Transfer.

Between 2012 and 2015, the University of Utah generated more than $210 million in licensing income and seeded 69 new businesses, a production rate the report describes as a "remarkable accomplishment" in light the school’s location in a smaller metropolitan area.
