University of Montana receives $250K to support storytelling in rural, Indigenous communities

The University of Montana School of Journalism received $250,000 to expand media literacy and audio storytelling skills in rural and Indigenous communities.

“Through these initiatives, we aim to cultivate a new generation of storytellers who can advocate for their communities and contribute to a more diverse and inclusive media landscape,” said Media Lab Director Mary Auld in a press release.

The funding will be used to launch four-day intensive audio journalism summer camps in Missoula in July 2024 and 2025.
