The Bakken Boom in Montana and North Dakota Goes Bust With No Money to Clean up the Mess

bakken

The Bakken oil field appears moving toward terminal decline, with the the citizens of Montana and North Dakota forced to cover the bill to clean up the mess caused by its ill-fated boom.

Industry insiders stating that the Bakken region is likely past peak oil production and that supporting infrastructure probably will never be built.

The petro-friendly government of North Dakota has failed to regulate the industry when money was plentiful during the boom, leaving the state with a financial and environmental mess and no way to fund its cleanup during the bust.

From here, the outlook only gets worse for the Bakken.
