Stellantis Unveils Driverless Electric Delivery Vehicle Concept

The idea is aimed at the last mile, but Stellantis is also looking at places where the vehicle can operate in a more controlled environment. Factories, hospitals and airports are among the possible applications.
The BOW, or Box-on-Wheels, is an autonomous electric vehicle designed specifically for last-mile and controlled environment deliveries. This concept represents a structural shift in commercial delivery vehicles by eliminating the driver, thereby dedicating all interior space to cargo.
Developed through a partnership combining Stellantis’ commercial vehicle expertise and UQI Robotics’ autonomous technology, the BOW was showcased in Hanover, Germany. Unlike traditional electric delivery vans retrofitted for autonomy, BOW was built from the ground up as a driverless platform. It is intended to operate in defined routes within controlled settings such as factories, hospitals, and airports. However, details such as battery capacity, range, payload, and production timelines remain undisclosed. The companies are focusing on demonstrating the technology and exploring commercial uses.
Stellantis has not yet provided a timetable for production or deployment.
While Montana was not mentioned in the event or concept details, this type of autonomous delivery vehicle could offer advantages in rural or controlled environments typical of the state. The capacity to operate without a driver might reduce labor costs and increase efficiency in isolated areas where traditional delivery logistics face challenges. However, the complexity of autonomous navigation in more varied and less predictable terrains would require further adaptation.
