StanCraft Marine Construction returns to Montana with new Kalispell office and construction expansion.

StanCraft Companies, a historic wooden boat manufacturer and construction group, has reestablished a physical presence in the Flathead Valley by opening a new office in Kalispell and launching construction projects locally. This revival represents a notable development for a company that left Montana decades ago but now seeks to expand its regional construction services.
The company held an open house earlier this fall at 141 Main Street, Kalispell, and began rebuilding Kelly Rae’s gas station in Batavia, which burned down in January 2025. StanCraft, founded in 1933 on Flathead Lake and relocated to Idaho in the early 1980s, employs around 300 people in construction and 80 in its marine division. Vice President of Operations Jason Stirtz stated that all boat work is done in-house at their Idaho campus. President Josh Horvath highlighted local collaboration during the gas station rebuild, while Montana market developer Zach Schermerhorn noted the lasting brand recognition in the area. StanCraft plans to hire a couple more Montana employees in the coming months.
The company expects growth in marine construction projects as its services gain traction in the Flathead Valley.
While StanCraft’s return taps into its historical roots, Montana businesses could see opportunities arise from the company’s expanded construction presence. Given Montana’s geography and economy, local access to a firm combining marine and construction expertise could potentially influence infrastructure development, particularly near lakes and waterways.
