Senator Max Baucus To Stand Up for Montana Jobs, Communities in Series of Events, 3/22-23

Montana’s senior U.S. Senator Max Baucus http://baucus.senate.gov/ is holding a series of events in Montana next week to highlight the importance of cutting spending while supporting Montana jobs and communities. Baucus voted to cut an additional $6 billion http://baucus.senate.gov/?p=press_release&id=403 in federal spending yesterday on top of $4 billion in cuts earlier this month. He will be in Miles City, Laurel and Livingston next Tuesday and Wednesday to stand up for rural priorities in those communities.

""We’ve got to get serious about addressing our debt and force the federal government to tighten its belt just like Montana families are doing across the state. That’s why I supported aggressive cuts to get rid of wasteful programs we don’t need and force bloated federal agencies to slim down. We’ve already saved $10 billion over the last few weeks by eliminating bureaucratic waste. As we work toward a longer-term budget solution, I’ll continue supporting smart, aggressive spending cuts that get us back on the path toward fiscal responsibility," Baucus said.

"What I won’t do is support radical and arbitrary cuts to Montana jobs and rural communities that hurt working families just as our economy is starting to recover. It makes sense to cut back on foreign aid at a time when Montana families are struggling. It makes sense to trim down overgrown agencies like NASA. It makes sense to put unspent funds from the census toward reducing the debt. It does not make sense to hack away at community programs that support Montana jobs – and I won’t stand for it."

Baucus has stood up for rural priorities http://baucus.senate.gov/?p=press_release&id=387 including: Medicare, Community Health Centers, Social Security, and the Land and Water Conservation Fund. Next week he will hold the following events to stand up for student financial aid, Montana law enforcement, and infrastructure construction projects that create jobs.
