Rosendale moves to strip Rocky Mountain Lab research funding

As congressional Republicans struggle to agree on spending bills to keep the government funded and avoid a shutdown, Montana Rep. Matt Rosendale (202) 225-3211 has attached an amendment to the House Labor, Health and Human Services Appropriations Act to strip the Rocky Mountain Lab in Hamilton of research funding.

Amendment No. 133 “Prohibits funds made available by this Act from conducting or supporting any gain-of-function research involving a potential pandemic pathogen by Rocky Mountain Laboratories.” The amendment was adopted by voice vote on Tuesday, Nov. 14.

The move comes following a series of unfounded claims by Rosendale regarding the Hamilton lab on social media. A link to a Daily Mail article was posted on Oct. 31 to the Montana congressman’s Facebook account, along with claims the Hamilton lab had experimented on SARS-CoV-2, the coronavirus responsible for the COVID-19 pandemic, under National Institutes of Health (NIH) scientist Anthony Fauci’s direction a year prior the COVID pandemic.
