Portland’s Indow Windows brings thermal inserts to market

Sam Pardue knew the windows in his Sullivan’s Gulch home were leaking heat.

As a good Portland environmentalist, he wanted to do something about it. But the idea of spending $30,000 for double-pane windows and ruining the historic character of his 100-year-old home did not appeal to him.

"I just couldn’t do it," Pardue said.

So he started looking for a solution. His first thought was some kind of insert attached with magnets, but they were ugly, "and looked goofy when you took them off."

Then, one day he noticed the seal around his refrigerator, and Indow Windows http://www.indowwindows.com/ was born.

Launched in November, the company makes the thermal window inserts Pardue invented at a nondescript warehouse on North Interstate Avenue a few blocks north of Broadway.
