NorthWestern Energy and Black Hills Corporation merger progresses in Montana

Northwestern Energy

NorthWestern Energy and Black Hills Corporation are moving forward with a merger, which could impact local customers and employees.

The announcement of the merger agreement came in August. NorthWestern Energy Public Information Specialist Jo Dee Black explained the implications for Montana customers.

“The merger doesn’t change energy service or rates for Northwestern Energy’s Montana customers. And regulatory oversight by the Montana Public Service Commission remains unchanged,” said Black.

Black detailed the benefits, stating, “The benefits they’ll see is a company with a larger scale. And that means efficiencies from the merger that are expected to, moderate future, rate increases. They’ll be, with a larger pool of crews and resources. The merged company will be better equipped to respond to emergencies and build and maintain critical infrastructure.”
