Several local public health officers from across Montana are speaking out, expressing concerns over Gov. Greg Gianforte’s announcement that he will lift the statewide mask mandate Friday and issue a new directive that simplifies other measures.

Multiple health officers told NBC Montana they were caught off guard by the announcement Wednesday, which came after Gianforte signed Senate Bill 65, a COVID-19 liability shield bill.
