Montana State University Research Tour, 7/14, Bozeman, Montana

Dear Our Bozeman Friends and Leaders:

On July 14th, 2014, MSU will be hosting tours of local companies utilizing university research and research facilities on or near campus, in coordination with the Office of the Commissioner of Higher Education and the University of Montana. This tour will be comprised of local leaders, as well as leaders from University of Montana and the State. This is the first of a set of tours that will continue in Missoula and Butte on Tuesday, July 15th.

Montana University System researchers conduct more than $160 million worth of competitive, sponsored research activity every year. For example, three of the top four wheat varieties planted in Montana were developed by university researchers to help boost the state’s winter wheat industry into a $600-million-per-year revenue generator. This research tour will showcase research programs that are key contributors to Montana agribusiness, energy and natural resource development, materials, manufacturing, health and biomedical sciences.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, in a report titled "Enterprising States: Policies that Produce," finds that "states most likely to grow in the next decade" will be those where government, universities, and the private sector "collaborate effectively to make sure that more new ideas developed by companies and in research labs scale up into industries."

The events in Bozeman will kick-off with coffee at 9:30 AM in 101 Gaines Hall, on the MSU campus. After a brief introduction from President Cruzado, busses will be loaded for tours of three different MSU facilities. The busses will return at 1:00 PM for lunch and a brief talk. The event will conclude at 2:00 PM.

If you are able to attend, please RSVP to [email protected]. Please indicate if you have any dietary restrictions at this time.

Reserved parking for the event will be available in the Visitor’s lot at the corner of 7th & Grant (map attached).

Thank you, and we hope to see you on campus on July 14th!

Sincerely,

Waded Cruzado

President
