Montana State University Mountains & Minds Fall 2019
January 2, 2020 /
Dear friends, I frequently begin my comments with these words: Welcome to YOUR university, Montana State. I then explain that because of its historic land-grant mission, Montana State is dedicated to the education of the sons and daughters of the state as well as improving the lives of each and every Montanan. This year, however, there is an addition to that phrase. That is because it is also YOUR year at Montana State. YOUR stands for the Year of Undergraduate Research. We have dedicated the entire academic year of 2019-2020 to undergraduate research in preparation for the National Conference on Undergraduate Research that will be held at MSU on March 26-28. We expect more than 4,000 students, faculty and staff from around the country visit MSU during the conference to present and discuss research. It is going to be a grand affair, including many events that will be open to the public. We hope you can join us. You can find out more at montana.edu/ncur2020. As most of you know, undergraduate research has long been part of MSU’s culture, and we believe all undergraduates should have the opportunity to experience research directly. We have long known that what you hear you forget. What you see you might remember. But, when you do things with your hands, the learning experience really takes hold. You will find many examples of that culture and the impact of MSU research on these pages. We hope you enjoy them. During this time of giving thanks, know that you are in our fondest thoughts and that we are grateful to have you in our community. Sincerely, Waded Cruzado
