Montana fourth- and eighth-graders continue to score higher than the national average in science, a new national report card released Wednesday shows.
In fact, results from the National Assessment of Educational Progress, a federal test given periodically in a range of topics, show state scores in both grades just one point below the national leaders.
Superintendent of Public Instruction Linda McCulloch said the results "speak well for the quality of science education provided by Montana’s teachers," but stressed the state can’t afford to rest on its laurels.

Wyoming students’ scores beat average; some gaps remain
