The first phase of a nationwide effort to return passenger rail service to southern Montana is about 95% complete, but officials said this week the federal program has been paused to review its policies.

The Big Sky North Coast Corridor is in the process of creating a service development plan for a new passenger rail route between Seattle and Chicago, including stops in several large Montana cities.
