Montana Mayors’ Academy set Feb. 1-3 at MSU

Sixty mayors from throughout Montana are expected at the second Montana Mayors’ Academy, to be held Feb. 1-3 on the campus of Montana State University.

The MSU Local Government Center and the Montana Municipal Insurance Authority conduct the academy. An additional 12 hours of instruction will be provided during the Montana Municipal Institute in Billings during the second week in May. Mayors that complete both courses of instruction will receive certification from the Local Government Center.

Jane Jelinski, director of the Local Government Center, said the academy will help the mayors learn about governing roles and responsibilities as well as the legal limits of authority.

"The academy will also help the mayors create a network of peers, which will reinforce best practices, and it will increase awareness of the resources available to them and reduce risk exposure and legal liability," Jelinski said.

Funding for the Mayors’ Academy has been provided by a grant from the Public Entity Risk Institute, Washington, D.C.

For more information about the academy, contact Jelinski at the Local Government Center, 994-7756.
