Missoula unveils multi-decade land use plan: addressing housing needs
A public hearing on the plan is scheduled for Monday, December 9, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. The Land Use and Planning Committee will consider the plan on December 11, with the possibility of adopting a final version on December 16.
As Missoula continues to grow, city officials have unveiled a new land use plan aimed at addressing housing and accessibility needs over the coming decades.
The plan, formerly known as the city’s growth plan, was presented in council chambers with a focus on increasing housing options and ensuring sustainable growth.
Chris Chitty, founder and owner of HONE Builders, emphasized the need for gradual progress. “The housing crisis that we currently face was many decades in the making, and no single effort by staff or by council will reverse the course of it. The unsatisfying truth is that it will be many smaller steps taken over time that will allow us to change the trajectory that we are currently on,” he said.
