Miles Community College Offering Meat Processing Professional Certificate

We have a new program at Miles Community College. This is a Professional Certificate that can be completed in one year and is 100% virtual, excluding the four internships required to obtain the certificate.

Students can complete this certificate from the comfort of their home. The internships are full-time and paid. I will pair students with an host processing plant that is within driving distance from their home. These internships are essentially like a 7.5-week job interview and provide all the hands-on learning needed to successfully work all operations in a processing plant. I have attached an internship overview sheet.

In addition to the hands-on internships, the 29-credit course work includes classes on meat processing, food safety and HCAAP, business math, elementary technical writing and biology- ALL completed online. Upon completing the certificate, students will have adequate food safety knowledge; master several meat cutting, packaging, yield and quality grading, and cut identification techniques; and posses retail marketing strategies.


We are scheduled to start classes January 20th, 2021. Incoming students can now receive Financial Aid for this certificate.
