Lowering broadband transaction costs with pay-per-forward networking
January 25, 2021 /
Pay-per-forward networking is an emerging technology which has the potential to greatly improve Internet access, especially in rural areas and developing countries. It does this by providing an alternate means of coordinating the capital and operating expenses of last mile networks, allowing many independently owned pieces of networking equipment to autonomously trade bandwidth. This eliminates several types of transaction costs, and facilitates new types of bandwidth arbitrage. In this essay, we will show how pay-per-forward networking can create the economic underpinnings for greatly improved last mile Internet access.
