It’s Never Too Late to Start a Company Even In Your 60’s.

Multiple large-scale studies challenge the stereotype of the young startup prodigy, showing that entrepreneurial success is more strongly associated with middle age. Research from the National Bureau of Economic Research and the Census Bureau, including an analysis of 2.7 million founders, found that the average age of entrepreneurs who build companies that hire employees is in the early to mid-40s, with the most successful tech founders averaging about 45 years old. Older founders also outperform their younger peers: a 50-year-old is nearly twice as likely as a 30-year-old to start a highly successful company, while a 60-year-old is three times as likely and nearly twice as likely to rank in the top 0.1 percent of firms by revenue. This trend extends beyond entrepreneurship, as broader research shows scientists and inventors are increasingly making their most significant contributions after age 40, reflecting the growing importance of experience and accumulated knowledge.
