Investors own the majority of homes in some California counties

Sierra County had the greatest, with a whopping 82% of single-family houses owned by investors. Trinity County had 77% investor-owned houses, while Mono and Alpine had 74% and 68% respectively.

California doesn’t have the most investor-owned homes in the country. That honor goes to Texas, with 1.66 million homes owned by investors. California has 1.45 million, while Florida comes in third with 1.21 million investor-owned homes. Combined, the three states make up nearly 25% of investor homes in the U.S.
