Intel VP Renee James seeks boost in Oregon education, innovation

Intel software chief Renee James, among the company’s top Oregon executives, told the Portland Business Alliance’s annual meeting this morning that the state’s education system isn’t generating enough skilled workers and that Oregon isn’t doing enough to support entrepreneurship.
"We’re on our way to becoming the lifestyle state. Innovation leaves Portland," James lamented in her keynote address, describing legions of tech execs that join her weekday mornings on Alaska Airlines’ "Nerd Bird" flights from Portland to San Jose.
