Hobby Shop showcases Montana prisoners unique talents

It might be the last place you’d expect to find some of the most skilled and artistic crafters in the state — maybe even the country.

Nestled in the tiny down of Deer Lodge sits a hobby shop https://cor.mt.gov/portals/104/mce/programs_hobby.html full of history — all built by the hands of prisoners.

"So here is a pound of hair — it’s horse hair. A pound of white and it costs $85," said inmate Scott Abe of his recent purchase that he’ll use to complete his handmade horse hair bridle.
