The city’s success is credited to strict speed limits, safer street designs, and improved infrastructure for pedestrians and cyclists. Guided by the Vision Zero philosophy, Helsinki reduced most residential speed limits to 30 km/h, redesigned intersections, and enhanced street lighting and crosswalks. These long-term efforts, along with strong public transport and road safety campaigns, have made Helsinki one of the safest cities in the world for urban mobility.
