Hellgate student rubs elbows big time at the Aspen Ideas Festival

Hellgate High School’s Hannah Rolston spent part of early July at the Aspen Institute’s Festival of Ideas http://www.aspeninstitute.org/site/c.huLWJeMRKpH/b.899955/k.2D7/Aspen_Ideas_Festival.htm in Colorado with 11 other students from throughout the nation. Here Rolston, left, visits with former U.S. secretary of state Madeleine Albright.Listen here for Rolston’s interview with Missoulian.com’s Bill Schwanke.

When Hannah Rolston started at Hellgate High School she had no idea that one day she’d be one of 12 students from throughout the nation hobnobbing with the likes of Madeleine Albright and Colin Powell in beautiful Aspen, Colo.

But it didn’t take long for her to figure out that – if she wanted to amount to something and open some doors – she should hit it hard right from the start of high school.

During the first period of her first class science teacher Gary Gagermeier told the class to “build up a resume because colleges are looking for a lot now.”

By hitting the books and being active at Hellgate, Rolston opened one great big door, the one to the Aspen Ideas Festival, a program of the Aspen Institute in Colorado. The institute’s mission is “to foster enlightened leadership and open-minded dialogue … through seminars, policy programs, conferences and leadership development initiatives.”
