Employees are lonely. This is bad news for employees and employers. Research shows people with friends at work are more engaged and more likely to want to work in person at the office. Yet only 20% of employees have a friend at work.

Workers benefit from making friends, and companies can (and should) facilitate this by encouraging people to socialize. Remember: we spend about a third of our waking hours at work. That time could be best spent among the company of friends. —Shalene Gupta
