Excellent Contract Opportunity – Missoula Historic Preservation Interpretive Program Seeks Applicants for Graphic Design and Information Management
The Missoula Historic Preservation Interpretation Program is a project of the Historic Preservation Commission and the Missoula Office of Planning and Grants. The project has a number of components including education, public involvement, technical support and the annual Preservation Awards. At this time, there is need to provide comprehensive interpretive information for Historic Downtown Missoula. There are four components for which we request graphic design and technical assistance:
Missoula History
Heritage Tours/Virtual Tours
Missoula Landscape, Architecture and Building Materials
Web-Based information technology and mapping
Missoula has eight historic districts and has completed a nomination for the Downtown Historic District. This project will bring interpretive and educational elements to people who will be able to take them on a walk through an historic neighborhood or district. This project will allow Missoulians and people from outside Missoula learn about the history and resources of Missoula and its Downtown. The information will be made available on Missoula’s OPG Historic Preservation website, and in print. The walking tours will be printable in a portable format – designed for the pocket or purse. This project will include thematic elements for education, including the Missoula landscape and its architecture. It will interpret natural history as well as cultural history. Annotated maps and aerial photographs will be available along with comparative scenes of Missoula – the same scene in historic images and contemporary images – Missoula “Then and Now”. The virtual tours will also include contemporary images from the historic districts and neighborhoods, as well as National Register historic sites. Historic building materials will be interpreted as well. The consultant will not be responsible for primary research. The HPC will provide the content of the interpretative materials. The consultant will be responsible for designing and developing the electronic and physical interface between the information and the people who need it. Materials developed will be compatible with the OPG website.
Interested consultants should submit:
Letter of interest and resume
Three professional references regarding ability to meet specifications on time
Portfolio or other examples of maps, geographic information, and websites that interpret community character and resources
All materials submitted will be returned by self addressed stamped envelope, or may be picked up at the Historic Preservation Office.
