Drone Completes First Combat Medevac of Wounded Ukrainian Soldier

A Ukrainian soldier became the first ever to be medevaced from a combat zone by a drone.
On October 19, 2026, a modified Heavy Shot “Ayudag-6” hexacopter successfully lifted a wounded 49-year-old Ukrainian soldier, Kostiantyn of the 92nd Separate Assault Brigade, out of a heavily shelled “grey zone.” This marks a structural shift in battlefield medical evacuation, bypassing the risks that make conventional helicopter or armored vehicle extractions impossible.
The 98-kilogram drone, originally designed for heavy logistics and munitions delivery, was adapted with Starlink anti-jamming communications, a modular harness, an electric cargo winch, and night-vision/thermal imaging. These upgrades enhanced airframe stability to prevent excessive swinging during transport. Operators from the 92nd Brigade’s Unmanned Systems unit coordinated the mission, delivering Kostiantyn to a secure location for ground evacuation to Kharkiv Military Hospital. Ground routes were heavily mined and under intense Russian fire, rendering traditional medevac methods impracticable.
Although the article does not explicitly confirm the exact mission date, this event demonstrates the expanding role of unmanned systems in frontline medical operations.
Though Montana’s rugged terrain and dispersed communities differ from an active war zone, the use of drones for emergency extraction could inspire new approaches in remote medical logistics or disaster response where ground access is limited or dangerous. Such innovations might reshape how emergency care reaches isolated populations across the state.
