Creating a Global Package to Solve the Problem of Plastics

In 2025, the Global Plastics Treaty will send a clear message to the plastics industry that it has to change the way it does business. That will be the beginning of the end of plastic.
A UN treaty could be the beginning of the end for single-use plastic production—but victory over this pollutant isn’t yet in the bag.
This treaty shares many of the mechanisms present in the 1987 Montreal Protocol, which eventually led to the phasing out of CFCs, the chemicals responsible for ozone depletion. As such, it can be as successful, despite opposition to it.
