City Club Missoula To Discuss City Local Study Commission, 9/15. Missoula

RSVP REQUIRED BY 9/11 546-6643 [email protected]

City Club Missoula opens its 2006-2007 year of public
forums with a discussion of the Missoula City Local
Government Study Commission’s recommendations, Friday,
Sept. 15, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Governor’s
Room, Florence Building, 111 N. Higgins.

Sue Malek, chair of the commission, will make a brief
presentation and distribute materials about four
ballot measures the Commission is recommending to
voters in the November election. Included are
proposals to change boundaries of wards and the number
of council persons representing each ward.

Malek said that she is hopeful that the presentation
with the accompanying proposed ward map will allow
people to come away with a clear understanding of the
new wards and be a helpful summary of the commission’s
decisions.

As with all City Club programs, a free exchange of
thought is encouraged. Those attending will have the
opportunity to discuss the proposals and ask follow-up
questions of the speaker.

The purpose of the Local Government Study Commission
is to study the existing form and powers of city
government and to review procedures for delivery of
services and compare them with other forms of
government. The state constitution specifies that
every ten years the citizens could review their local
government. The current commission is made up of seven
citizens elected in 2004.

Geoff Badenoch, a City Club Missoula board member,
will introduce Ms. Malek and moderate the discussion.

City Club Missoula forums are open to everyone;
reservations are required. Reservations for the
Sept. 15 forum can be made by email to
[email protected] or by calling 546-6643 on or
before Monday, Sept. 11. Please indicate if you want
lunch ($10 for members, $15 for nonmembers) or the
no-lunch option of forum, dessert and beverage for $5.
