Members of the Missoula City Council have been discussing the pros and cons of permitting accessory dwelling units (ADUs) in Single Family Zoning Districts since last summer. An ADU can be a small apartment inside an existing house or a backyard cottage. Many Missoula residents are passionate about the topic. Some see ADUs as a tool to make housing more affordable, while others see them as a potential problem for neighborhood quality of life. Four Missoula City Council members with differing views promise a lively, issues-based discussion.

Development Services planning staff members Laval Means and Tom Zavitz will be on hand to answer technical questions.
