Now, a group of residents are working alongside city officials to improve that awareness. The new group—Casper’s Council for People with Disabilities—held its first meeting Monday.

The council will tackle issues like employment, recreation, transportation and accessibility to public and private buildings. All things the average person takes for granted, members say.

City officials have been vocally supportive of the council, but it didn’t form overnight.
