Carroll students win in international engineering contest

Three Carroll College students gave up sleep and their Super Bowl weekend to compete with math, computer science and engineering students from around the world in a timed contest.

Steffen Francischetti, Ben Dunham and Kyle Nixon’s work to create a formula for the most efficient design and use of an irrigation system made them one of six "outstanding winners" in the Mathematical Contest in Modeling competition.

Teams from the University of Colorado, Duke, the University of California-Davis and two Chinese universities also received the same award.

The contest is intended "to stimulate and improve problem-solving and writing skills."
