Creating partnerships, protecting Montana’s public lands
Leading this message with an extension of all the gratitude I feel for each of you and your businesses; for the work you have put in, the leverage you have helped build, and the passion that you carry for protecting Montana’s Outdoors.
I am grateful for new opportunities to work together as we head into a new year, for the hope that is on the fringes of our coming out of this pandemic, and for the progress that we have been able to make on behalf of our wild adventurous places and the character of Montana’s communities.
There have no doubt been challenges this year, but we are resilient in Montana, and we don’t lose sight of what we value. I feel and experience that in every interaction, all of the bits of work, and every inch that we are able to move the needle on public lands. You are integral to that, and the strides forward would be impossible without our collective dedication.
A few current things to keep in mind as we forge onward in the good work that we do, and – as some would say – with even more work cut out for us ahead.
- Our outdoor recreation economy is still a sizable force, making up 2% of the national GDP, and nearly 5% of the GDP in Montana, according to the Bureau of Economic Analysis’ recent report.
- Because of the shift in leadership and makeup of our state legislative representation, there is much work to do on behalf of Montana’s outdoors. Take a look at some of the ways we will work with partners in the conservation community to protect Montana’s public lands in the upcoming MT legislative session.
- Exciting work is on the horizon for the Lower Yellowstone River Corridor. Take a peek at an open letter of support, and lend your business name to help create opportunities for recreation infrastructure improvements and economic development along the lower Yellowstone.
- Interested in where the Great American Outdoors Act is now? There have been significant hiccups in this landmark legislation, but we have not stopped pushing to make sure that our leaders in Congress fight for the promise they made to protect and fund our public lands and recreation projects across Montana, and beyond.
I look forward to engaging all of you more as we close out 2020, with a Year End Appeal that you will see starting on Giving Tuesday – Tuesday, December 1 – and running through the end of the year. It is an opportunity for us to grow stronger, build a robust base of business investment and grow our diverse roster of businesses collectively advocating for our outdoors, public lands, and recreation.
I hope you all enjoy a safe and healthy holiday, holding close all of the things for which you have to be thankful.
Warmest Regards,
Marne
