Raise Your Voice, a program of the Montana Campus Compact http://www.mtcompact.org , works to support and train participants in student governments on college and university campuses across the state.

The program will hold its first training event of the year in February. The event is open to students from any Montana college or university.

"Building an Engaged Campus Conference" will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, at Montana State University-Billings. The Associated Students of MSU-Billings is sponsoring the conference, and registration is free.

The conference will include sessions on motivating and engaging the electorate, holding effective forums, setting goals, advocating for education and scholarship awards, appreciative inquiry, and moving from civic awareness to engagement.

MTCC, based at The University of Montana, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping colleges and universities renew their public purposes by promoting volunteerism, community service and service learning.

The organization’s Raise Your Voice program and the benefits it offers are available to all campuses in Montana.

Raise Your Voice makes it easier for students to attend training sessions by waiving registration fees for participants from member campuses and paying lodging and travel expenses.

This year Raise Your Voice also will offer free travel, lodging and registration to one student from a member campus to go to two national conferences – one in March at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn., and one in April in Bellevue, Wash.

Throughout the year, Raise Your Voice facilitates e-mail communications and conference calls that create a statewide dialog on challenges faced by student governments on Montana campuses. Students also share successes and innovative ideas.

At the end of this year, the second annual MTCC Student Training Institute will be held. The institute provides student-led workshops and is the only one of its kind in the state. It also is a showcase of the work of students from Montana campuses.
