Bozeman Airport Drives $2.2 Billion in Montana Economic Impact

Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport is Montana’s busiest airport, providing the only year-round service for two Yellowstone National Park entrances and generating $2.2 billion annually, leading Montana’s airports in economic impact.

The Montana Department of Transportation’s 2026 Economic Impact Study highlights the airport’s dominant role in the state’s economy, underscoring its significance in employment and tourism revenue.

The airport supports nearly one-third of Montana’s aviation jobs and connects to 20% of the Gallatin Valley workforce. Passenger numbers are set to rise to 2.9 million in 2026, up from 2.8 million in 2025, with visitor spending through the airport accounting for over 40% of Montana’s tourism revenue. This marks a substantial increase from a decade ago when the economic impact was around $750 million. CEO Brian Sprenger noted the striking scale of these figures and emphasized the airport as a critical economic engine. The facility has also seen $250 million invested in projects over the last two years, including expansions to gates and baggage claim.

Ongoing growth projects aim to continue supporting the airport’s rapid expansion.

Given Montana’s vast geography and reliance on air travel for tourism and business, the airport’s growth could increasingly influence regional economic patterns. Communities statewide might benefit indirectly as the airport’s expansion drives demand for services and labor, reinforcing its role as a pivotal economic hub beyond Gallatin Valley.
