Big Trucks in the U.S. Could Start Battery Swapping to Cut Diesel Consumption Drastically

Revoy raises $27 million to introduce EV battery swapping for Class 8 trucks.

California-based startup Revoy is developing a retrofit battery swapping system aimed at cutting diesel consumption drastically in heavy freight trucks. This structural shift could alter fuel use patterns amid soaring diesel prices and supply uncertainties.

The system fits a 575 kWh battery between the cab and trailer, powering the truck’s axle and enabling rapid swap-in, swap-out operation. Independent tests by Mesilla Valley Transportation Solutions found diesel savings from 65% to over 90%, depending on terrain. The truck achieved a range of 250 miles on a 123-mile route using just 59% battery capacity. Revoy claims up to 85% emissions reduction and emphasizes compatibility with existing diesel fleets, avoiding full electric truck replacements. The $27 million Series A funding reported in July 2026 adds to a total raised exceeding $41 million.

Revoy is preparing to deploy its battery swapping solution in the US market.

Given Montana’s expansive freight routes and reliance on diesel trucks, such a retrofit could offer significant operational savings, especially with diesel prices up 63% since early 2026. The state’s long hauls and varied terrain might yield fuel savings comparable to MVTS’s test results in New Mexico, potentially encouraging adoption among regional fleets seeking cost stability amid volatile energy markets.
