Big for its britches: Montana’s Red Ants Pants turns 20

Red Ants Pants

Sarah Calhoun didn’t consider herself a feminist when she launched her women’s workwear brand 20 years ago. She was just filling a need. Before Red Ants Pants, there were no work pants built specifically to fit women well.

As a farmgirl herself, she said, “it came out of necessity.”

“In an ant colony, it’s the females that do all the work,” Calhoun told the Gazette while en route to a speaking event. The brand was designed around the working woman’s need for pants that fit.

Looking back now though, and bearing witness to what Red Ants Pants has become for hard working women, especially in Montana’s agriculture community, she said, “It’s such an essential thing to support our gender.”
