Atlanta-based company withdraws lease plans for huge data center near Great Falls

GFDA

An Atlanta-based company appears to have withdrawn its plans to lease a huge chunk of land near Great Falls for a proposed data center that would have needed as much as 600 megawatts of electricity every year, which is roughly enough power for over three-quarters of all households in Montana.

There are at least three other data center projects proposed for Montana, and they would need a combined 1,400 megawatts of power by the year 2030 if they all come to fruition. NorthWestern Energy has signed Letters of Intent for those three projects.

The entire load for NorthWestern Energy in Montana right now is only about 750 megawatts per year.
