At Missoula’s Cold Springs elementary, prospective writers start in kindergarten

"The Brave Cowboy" – now that’s a tale.
All 34 ears belonging to 17 Cold Springs kids perked up as the child gunslinger lived out his fantasy in this tiny little book, every word spoken by the teacher and savored by his captive audience.
"So why?" asked Casey Schaefer, to his class of rapt children perched on the floor of the kindergarten classroom. "Why would he have a two-holster belt?"
Tick, tock. Little hands scratched little heads.
A few seconds, then the answer.
"So he can shoot two people at the same time?"
