Amazon Invests $4 Billion to Boost Rural Delivery Services

Amazon is investing $4 billion this year to expand delivery services to remote rural areas, including Wyoming.
Amazon is investing $4 billion this year to expand its rural delivery network, aiming to improve same-day and next-day services for residents and small businesses in sparsely populated regions. This move reflects a structural shift in logistics, targeting underserved communities and creating local employment opportunities.
The investment will fund the opening of new Rural Super Rural delivery centers, with facilities already launched in Gillette and Casper, Wyoming, in October 2024, and another planned for Rock Springs. Amazon intends to triple the size of its rural network by the end of 2026, reaching more than 200 locations in over 4,000 small towns and rural communities. Righteous Routes Logistics, based near Billings, Montana, employs 140 people to deliver packages in rural Montana and northern Wyoming, while independent sellers in Wyoming sold over 22 million items through Amazon in 2025. The company has contributed more than $60 million to Wyoming’s economy and created over 300 jobs since 2010.
Amazon is currently expanding its rural delivery hubs at a pace of 40 to 50 new locations per year.
Montana’s vast geography and dispersed population might make faster delivery services particularly valuable for local businesses and residents. The expansion could support rural entrepreneurship and consumer access, although the impact on existing brick-and-mortar businesses remains uncertain. Local logistics firms like Righteous Routes Logistics may benefit from increased demand as Amazon broadens its reach.
