Last Fall’s audit by the Associated Press found that most county offices respond well to requests for information. The audit also noted some problems in this area. A theme running through the news reports was this: it’s not always clear to folks on the front line what’s public and what’s private. Agencies try to balance the public’s right to know against the individual’s right to privacy, yet these two rights have come into conflict on more than one occasion for government managers. This seminar addresses that problem and explores the manager’s responsibility regarding public records and public meetings.
