Tech companies, promising innovation, want cities to make way for change

The technology continually remaking what you see on your computer screen is now spilling out onto the streets and sidewalks around you.

Tech companies – Google, Airbnb and Uber among them – are pushing into Portland neighborhoods. They promise fun, convenient new services and an economic boost to the area.

In exchange, they want cities to change rules to enable new businesses and the technologies that underlie them.
