Montana to be featured in Smithsonian Channel show in 2013
The Smithsonian television channel wants to share the story of Montana with the world — or at least its viewers.
A three-person crew from Aerial America accompanied Missoula-based pilot Todd Donahue for five days in early August as they tried to capture the visual essence of Montana with a high-definition camera strapped to the chin of his B3 Jet Ranger Bell helicopter. While pilots are limited to being in the air for eight hours, Donahue said they put in a couple of 14-hour days, including time spent getting ready for the shoot.
"We covered a lot of ground," said Donahue, who owns Homestead Helicopters. "On a good weather day they’d shoot for six to eight hours."
