Idaho exports boom, thanks to high-tech $1.4 billion of state’s $2.9 billion in ’04 exports was computer chips

Idaho exports totaled just over $2.9 billion last year, up 39 percent from 2003 and nearly 50 percent higher than in 2002, according to the state’s Department of Commerce & Labor.

Only Nevada and Montana had higher percentage increases in exports last year. Nationally exports rose 13 percent in 2004.

The total lifted Idaho to 38th among the states in exports, recovering some of the ground it lost during the recession.

The state ranked 32nd nationally in 2000 when exports hit a record $3.6 billion.
