Editorial: Missouri should hunt for long-term jobs solutions, stop poaching

The luring of Doyle Manufacturing to Missouri offers a compelling look at what is wrong with current state economic development policies.

Last month, Gov. Jay Nixon touted Doyle’s impending move to the small town of Palmyra as an example of the state’s revving economic engine. The firm, which makes fertilizer spreading equipment, was bringing 92 jobs to northeast Missouri in part because of $1.5 million in state incentives.

Mr. Nixon touted Doyle as a Missouri success story.
