Through this initiative, state employees will be allowed to take one hour of flex time per week for voluntary mentoring activities to support mentoring, tutoring, reading, and guest speaking to classrooms of school-aged youth.

Arizona currently has approximately 62,000 state employees. The Governor’s Commission on Service and Volunteerism will launch a campaign to recruit 100 mentors in 100 days. Gov. Napolitano is also encouraging private business to follow the state’s lead and provide their employees with opportunities to mentor youth in their communities.
