First Drone Developed to Track Radio-Collared Wildlife

Radio collars are commonplace in the field of wildlife studies and conservation. An animal is caught, collared and released into the wild, leaving the biologist to later tramp over land, marsh and hill with a receiver to find the animal. It’s a time-consuming and expensive ordeal.

Now researchers at the Australian National University and the University of Sydney have, for the first time, developed a drone that does the labor-intensive work of tracking down a collared animal.
