Pat Williams: Long political career
Editor’s note: This mini profile is part of a series being run in conjunction with Butte-Silver Bow County’s 150th anniversary. It features notable people from Butte.
Pat Williams grew up in Butte, often romping around with his cousin Bobby Knievel in their grandmother’s homes long before Knievel became the world-famous daredevil and Williams got elected to the first of nine terms as a Montana Democrat in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Williams’ political career spanned four decades, starting with his 1966 election to a Silver Bow County seat in the Montana House, an unsuccessful primary race for the U.S. Senate against Max Baucus in 1974 to a congressman from January 1979 to 1997.
